Graduate Work

In May of 1998, I completed my masters degree in Communication Management from USC's Annenberg School for Communication. This interdisciplinary program draws from fields such as organizational communication, business and sociology. There is also a strong emphasis on the social impacts of new technology on competitive markets and the workplace.

While I was in the program, I studied topics ranging from Organizational Change to the Social Dynamics of Communication Technologies and from Communication Theory to Business Strategy. My focus was on Strategic and Corporate Communications.

In most of my classes I had the opportunity to do research in both the business and scholarly worlds, assessing real-life case studies with academic frameworks and theories. Several of my projects gave me first-hand insights into strategic, organizational and communication issues in prominent companies including Disney, USWeb/CKS, Universal and Pacific Bell.

For my Managing Communications class project our group made recommendations on how to design and implement Disney Consumer Product's corporate intranet. In the same class, I also studied the organizational communication issues of the merger between beverage-giant Seagram and Hollywood studio Universal. For my Organization Development and Change class project our group assessed the impact of three small start-ups merging together to form a USWeb/CKS franchise office. In my Social Dynamics of Communication Technologies course, I studied how Pacific Bell's online yellow pages Web site reflected the internal social and organizational dynamics of the company.
